Choice Boards

  • Wed, Jun 4
  • 1:45 pm - 2:10 pm
  • B202
  • Brittany Mcfarland
My presentation focuses on how I have tailored the insights gained from the Modern Classroom Project to meet my specific needs. I delivered this presentation at a team Professional Learning Community (PLC) meeting last month, where it was well-received, resulting in an invitation to present at one of the FCPS hubs this fall!

Here is what modern classroom does:
Blended Instruction - Students access content through teacher-created videos.
Self-Paced Structures - Students control the pace of their own learning.
Mastery-Based Learning - Students progress from one lesson to the next when they demonstrate mastery.

I have titled this presentation "CHOICE BOARDS" because it aims to equip educators with the skills to create digital choice boards that allow students to progress at their own pace. If a student is unable to attend school for a day, they can seamlessly resume their learning from where they left off. This approach also provides teachers with significant opportunities for differentiation, as they can incorporate various resources—such as instructional videos demonstrating how to change a Google Sheet from English to Spanish—directly into their lessons. These are just two of the advantages of utilizing my digital choice board concept to your lessons!

They are encouraged to fail by reaching further than they believe they can reach, extending their risk beyond thier comfort zone and exploring their interests to the fullest extent. Their goals should be ever-changing and require them to move forward, climb higher, and accomplish things they thought to be too difficult for them to achieve.
